Social dance night with hustle, west coast swing and Latin dances like salsa, bachata, cumbia and merengue.
CrossBody Dance Squirrel Hill is hosting a dance session on Saturday, October 31, starting at 9 PM. It's a night that pulls from a few different worlds, with Hustle and West Coast Swing sharing the floor with a wide range of Latin styles.
On the swing side, you've got Hustle and West Coast Swing. On the Latin side, the list is long: Salsa, Bachata, Cha Cha, Cumbia, and Merengue. It's a lot of ground to cover in one evening, and the session is built around that mix, so you can move from the swing styles to the Latin ones without changing venues. If you're into one and haven't spent much time with the others, it's a good chance to get both in the same night.
The Latin side of the lineup runs through several distinct rhythms. Salsa and Bachata are the ones most people recognize, but the addition of Cha Cha, Cumbia, and Merengue brings in a broader Caribbean reach. Cumbia and Merengue, in particular, bring a different energy to the floor than the more common salsa and bachata pairings, and having them all in the mix means the music will shift across a fair amount of territory over the course of the night.
