Free guided tour of the 59th Carnegie International, created by artist Brooke O'Harra and the museum's docents, in which visitors respond to artworks through limited physical movement.
How Art Moves Us is a guided tour at the Carnegie Museum of Art, running Thursdays from 7 to 7:45 PM through December 17, 2026. It's a small, focused experience that comes out of the 59th Carnegie International, the museum's big international exhibition that returns every four years. The museum describes the International as the longest-running exhibition of international art in North America, and this edition is billed as the most collaborative and far-reaching to date, grounded in their commitment to the art and artists of our time.
The tour itself was created by artist Brooke O'Harra, who worked closely with the museum's docents to build it. The idea is to invite visitors to respond to the artworks through limited physical movement, so it's less about walking and talking and more about how you move your body in relation to what you're seeing. It's a slower, more deliberate way of taking in the show than you'd usually find on a museum visit.
If you're planning to make a full afternoon or day of it, the wider exhibition runs through January 3, 2027, with daily drop-in tours at 11:30 AM and noon. While you're there, you can also see the Charles 'Teenie' Harris Archive Gallery and A History of the Carnegie International in the Scaife Gallery, alongside the Mindful Museum, the museum's signature well-being through art program. The Carnegie Museum of Art is one of the four Carnegie Museums of Pittsburgh.
