Holiday pops concert by the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra with the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and special guests at Heinz Hall.
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra brings back the Highmark Holiday Pops to Heinz Hall starting Friday, December 11, with performances running through December 20. It's the PSO's annual holiday tradition, presented by the orchestra and sponsored by Highmark.
The program leans on the festive favorites you've probably heard a dozen times before, like Sleigh Ride and the Hallelujah chorus, and it's built around joyful sing-alongs. There's a decorated tree set up inside, and the whole thing is meant to lean into the Yuletide magic of Heinz Hall. It's the kind of concert where you're encouraged to join in rather than just sit and listen.
On stage, the PSO is joined by the Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and special guests, so you'll have a full choir backing the orchestra on the bigger numbers. The orchestra itself is one of the oldest and most prestigious in the country, dating back to 1895 when it was founded by the British composer, conductor, and organist Frederic Archer. Since then, it's performed all over the world, including a 2004 concert for Pope John Paul II.
