Behind-the-scenes first look at the making of a new The Nutcracker, with a dance performance by Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre at the Benedum Center.
Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre is giving a first look at their new The Nutcracker at the Benedum Center on Monday, December 7. It's not the full production you'll see later in the season, but a behind-the-scenes glimpse at how this version is coming together, with a dance performance included.
If you've seen The Nutcracker a dozen times, this is a different way into it. Instead of the finished show, you get to see the making of itβthe work that happens before the curtain goes up on the official run. The performance is part of that, so you'll see the dancers in action, but the focus is on the process behind the scenes.
The Benedum Center is a 2,800-seat theater in the heart of the Cultural District, run by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust. It's one of the city's main stages, hosting the Trust's own presentations like PNC Broadway in Pittsburgh, Dentons Cohen & Grigsby Trust Presents, and First Night Pittsburgh. It also gives priority dates to the district's resident companies, including the Pittsburgh Ballet Theatre, the Pittsburgh Opera, and Pittsburgh CLO, and is available for rent to other promoters and community groups.
