Annual autumn night walk at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve where costumed nocturnal creatures guide visitors along the trails.
Creatures of the Night returns to Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve from October 22 to 24, with the Audubon Society of Western PA putting on this annual autumn experience. It's a night walk through the reserve's nature trails, and it's exactly what the title suggests: a chance to spend an evening with the animals that come out after dark.
The walk is guided by fireflies, which lead you along the trails to meet larger-than-life costumed nocturnal creatures. Along the way, you'll hear stories from a Great Horned Owl, watch the acrobatics of a Flying Squirrel, and meet a Little Brown Bat. The whole thing builds toward the end, when you come face to face with a real-life creature of the night. It's an outdoor walk, and it runs rain or shine, so you'll want to dress for the weather regardless of what the forecast says.

Registration is required, and the organizers encourage you to turn up in costume—it's a family-friendly event, and the costumes are part of the fun. If you're bringing kids, keep in mind that children under 2 get in free. The walk runs from 6:30 to 9:00 PM each night, so it's a full evening out in the woods. Tickets are $10 for ASWP members and $15 for nonmembers. You'll find the reserve at 614 Dorseyville Rd in Fox Chapel, just outside the city.
