Large-scale public art commission by the duo Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis, with six artworks across the Arts Landing grounds.
Lenka Clayton and Phillip Andrew Lewis are bringing Bird Circus to Arts Landing on Wednesday, April 29, and it stays through Wednesday, May 31. It's a new large-scale commission for the site, and the two artists are working together on this one.
Bird Circus looks at the poetic, often precarious relationship between humans and birds. The work is made of abstract structures that evoke perches, platforms, and circus apparatuses, and they're framed as invitations: for birds to rest, for humans to look up, and for unexpected moments of convergence between the two. It's the kind of piece that asks you to slow down and pay attention to things you usually walk right past.
The two artists come from different backgrounds. Lenka Clayton is a British-American conceptual artist known for poetic interventions into daily life. Phillip Andrew Lewis is an American interdisciplinary artist whose work sits at the intersection of research, sculpture, and time. Both are based in Pittsburgh, and they've collaborated on major public commissions across the country, blending curiosity, precision, and a quiet sense of humor.

Bird Circus was commissioned by the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust for Arts Landing, a site where public art is woven throughout. There are six distinct artworks integrated across the grounds, turning paths, gathering places, and open views into moments of reflection, play, and connection. The exhibition runs daily from 7 AM to 10 AM, and admission is free.
