Professional summit for educators, librarians and literacy champions to share strategies for supporting children's literacy from birth.
The 2026 Children's Literacy Summit is coming to the Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh's Homewood branch on Saturday, October 24, from 10 AM to 1 PM. It's a morning dedicated to young readers, and it brings together educators, librarians, and literacy champions from across the city to talk about how to support children from birth.
The focus is on literacy development for the youngest readers, so the conversations start at the very beginning. Throughout the session, participants look at proven and emerging strategies for helping children learn to read and engage with books from the time they're born. It's as much about the tools as it is about the people: you'll spend the morning exploring different approaches and connecting with others who are working toward the same goal.
That connection is a big part of the day. You'll be in a room with teachers, librarians, and community members who all care about the same thing, so it's a good place to swap ideas and hear how other people are handling literacy work in their own neighborhoods. You'll leave with new tools and ideas to take back to the children in your community.
