Phoenix trio TRIPOLAR, blending garage-blues rock with alternative punk, plays MYSPACE with support from Dog Party.
TRIPOLAR play MYSPACE on Thursday, October 29, with Dog Party opening. It's a Phoenix band playing a Phoenix room, and they're a three-piece fronted by vocalist Jazzy Lin, with brothers Bryan and Chris Vouga on bass, guitar, and drums. That's the whole lineup—Lin on vocals, Bryan handling both bass and guitar, and Chris on drums.
They describe their sound as sitting at the crossroads of blues rock and alternative punk, and that's a fair way to put it. There's a garage-blues grit to the rock side of things, and an alternative-punk edge that keeps it from leaning too far into the traditional. The two pull in opposite directions, and the songs swing between biting sarcasm and exposed vulnerability. If you're into music that can be sharp one minute and open the next, that's the territory they're working in.

Since they're a local act, this is one of those shows where you can see them right here in the city rather than catching them on a tour stop. Dog Party opens the night, so there are two bands on the bill. The show starts at 7 PM at MYSPACE in Phoenix.
