Free screening of Christopher Nolan's neo-noir thriller 'Memento' for members at the Phoenix Art Museum, part of the 'The Color of Noir' film series.
The Phoenix Art Museum is screening Christopher Nolan's Memento on Saturday, November 7, as part of its The Color of Noir film series. It's a neo-noir psychological thriller about Leonard, a man hunting the person who raped and murdered his wife while living with a rare, untreatable form of memory loss. The movie is told in reverse, with the story unfolding backward from the end to the beginning, so you're piecing together the mystery alongside him as he struggles to keep track of his own life.
Memento was Nolan's second feature, and it's the one that really put him on the map. It premiered at the Venice Film Festival and earned two Oscar nominations, and it marks the start of the phase of his career that would lead to Inception, Interstellar, and The Dark Knight trilogy. If you've seen those, this is where the obsession with time and memory first took hold.
It's part of The Color of Noir, a series at the museum that programs new and classic works by local and global filmmakers, chosen for the way they speak to the museum's collection and exhibitions. The series runs alongside the museum's other cinematic and performing arts strands, like the Bolshoi Ballet and Great Art on Screen, so it's one of several ways they bring film into the gallery space.
