Ribbon-cutting ceremony led by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department to mark the new amenities at Smith Park.
Smith Park is getting a ribbon cutting on Saturday, October 24, to mark the new amenities coming to the grounds. It's a morning thing, running from 9 AM to 10 AM at 4030 W Sherman St in Phoenix, and it's being led by the Phoenix Parks and Recreation Department.
That department is the one behind the city's parks, and they run things under a philosophy they call 'Power of Parks,' which they describe as promoting health, wellness, conservation and social equity through access to the city's parks, recreation and cultural facilities. It's a good way to get a sense of what they're aiming for with the new additions here.
To give you an idea of the scale they're working with, the department manages more than 41,000 acres of desert parks and mountain preserves, over 200 miles of trails, 187 parks, 33 community and recreation centers, eight golf courses and 29 pools. They're also in the middle of developing a Parks Master Plan to guide their direction for the next ten years and beyond. And on May 6, 2026, City Council approved the Medical Treatment and Food Distribution in Parks Ordinance.
