A skills meeting to practice and share ancient life skills and arts in the museum's Community Room, run by the Study of Ancient Lifeways and Technologies (SALT).
SALT is holding another skills meeting at the S'edav Va'aki Museum on Saturday, October 17, from 10 AM to 2 PM. The meeting takes place in the museum's Community Room, and it's open to everyone.
SALT stands for Study of Ancient Lifeways and Technologies, and the group's whole point is to understand, practice, and share the life skills and arts of the ancient world. These meetings are where that actually happens: people get together to work through those old-world crafts and techniques, and they share what they've learned with each other. It's a regular thing, usually on the third Saturday of every month, and SALT runs other events at the museum throughout the year, so this is one of many chances to get involved.
The venue itself is a National Historic Landmark here in Phoenix. It was formerly known as the Pueblo Grande Museum and Archaeological Park, and it was renamed S'edav Va'aki on March 23, 2023. The site preserves the history of the people who built one of the largest and most sophisticated canal systems in the New World before Europeans arrived, and the displays show how those engineers and farmers thrived in the Sonoran Desert for millennia. It's a fitting place for a group that spends its time looking at how people lived and worked in the distant past.
