Adult book club session to read and discuss James Ellroy's 'L.A. Confidential', presented with the museum's 'Color of Noir' film series.
The Phoenix Art Museum is hosting a book club session on Wednesday, November 4, centered on James Ellroy's L.A. Confidential. It's part of the museum's Color of Noir film series, so if you've been following the screenings, this is the reading companion to go along with them.
L.A. Confidential is Ellroy's hard-boiled epic, set in 1950s Hollywood. It follows three LAPD officers as they investigate a grisly mass murder in an all-night diner, and the plot spirals from there. If you're into noir, this is a heavy hitterβit's a sprawling, gritty look at the underbelly of mid-century Los Angeles, and the book club is a chance to talk through it with other readers rather than just finishing it on your own.
The session runs about an hour, and it's intended for audiences 18 and older. It's held at The Lemon Art Research Library, which is inside the Museum Administration Building at the Phoenix Art Museum. If you've never been to the library before, just keep in mind it's in the administration building, not the main gallery spaces, so you might want to give yourself a few extra minutes to find it.
