Free book club meeting led by Arizona Opera's stage director Sydney Roslin and artist Marion Roose Pullin to explore the tale of Puss in Boots ahead of the company's opera El Gato con Botas.
Arizona Opera is hosting a book club meeting at the Arizona Opera Center on Tuesday, October 27, at 6:30 PM. The session focuses on the classic tale of Puss in Boots, a story of clever tricks, adventure and imagination, and it's free to attend.
Leading the conversation are Sydney Roslin, stage director of El Gato con Botas (the Spanish title for Puss in Boots), and Marion Roose Pullin, a studio artist with the company. They'll be revisiting the original story, which serves as a fun introduction to the characters and the spirit of the opera Arizona Opera is preparing. If you've read the tale as a kid, this is a chance to look at it again with a couple of people who are actually bringing it to the stage.
The meeting is part of the Arizona Opera Book Club, a reading group that pairs books with the company's operas and links each reading to a performance. It also gives members a space to connect between meetings, so if you're looking for a way to get into the opera scene without just buying a ticket and sitting in the dark, this is a good place to start. Arizona Opera is one of the nation's leading opera companies, serving both Phoenix and Tucson.
