Screening of the National Theatre Live telecast of 'Fleabag', the one-woman play written and performed by Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Phoebe Waller-Bridge's Fleabag comes to the Phoenix Art Museum on Sunday, December 20, as part of the National Theatre Live series. It's a one-woman show, written and performed by Waller-Bridge and directed by Vicky Jones, and it's the same stage production that inspired the BBC series of the same name.
One thing to have clear before you go: this is a screening, not a live performance. The production was captured on stage at London's West End in 2019 and later sent to cinemas, where it had a record-breaking box-office run before returning to the big screen. This screening is a telecast of that performance, so you're seeing the West End show as it was recorded, not a live act happening in the museum.
If you've seen the TV series, this is the source material. It's Waller-Bridge alone on stage, and the show's reputation comes from that—the way she handles the room by herself. The BBC series took that foundation and built a whole world around it, but the stage play is where it all started.
