Weekly Thursday night of live jazz with pianist Charles Lewis and his trio at The Nash.
Charles Lewis & His Trio play The Nash on Thursday, October 22, as part of the club's Jazz Casual Thursday series. The night is led by Lewis, a pianist who celebrated his 93rd birthday this past August, and he's joined by Max Beckman on bass and Nick MacGregor on drums.
The series takes its name from Jazz Casual, the American TV show that aired in the early 1960s and featured jazz greats like John Coltrane, Ben Webster, Dave Brubeck, Paul Desmond, Elvin Jones, Milt Jackson, Mel Torme and Vince Guaraldi. The idea is to bring that same spirit to a modern, casual setting—live jazz in a room where you can just sit back and listen.
It's a good fit for the venue, too. The Nash is more than just a jazz club; it's an educational center, an art gallery, and a gathering place that's become a home for real jazz in Arizona. The Jazz Casual Thursday nights keep that tradition going, with Lewis at the front of the bill.
