Free screening for members and $10 for non-members of David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Frank Herbert's 'Dune' at PhxArt.
Phoenix Art Museum is screening David Lynch's 1984 adaptation of Dune on Wednesday, December 16, from 6 PM to 8 PM. It's a big-screen look at Lynch's take on Frank Herbert's science fiction novel, a book that for a long time was considered unadaptable before it eventually became a cult classic. The story is set on the desert world of Arrakis, where it follows the Fremen and their messianic prophecy.
There's a fair bit of history packed into this version. The giant worms were crafted by Carlo Rambaldi, the same man who created E.T., and the synth score comes from Grammy winners Toto. The cinematography was by Oscar winner Freddie Francis, and the cast includes rock legend Sting. The museum is framing the screening as part of Lynch's singular legacy, and it comes just ahead of the theatrical release of Dune: Part Three.
