Austin egg-punk and riot grrrl band CorMae plays Central Records on its Sunny Side Tour, with opening acts Taco Sauce and Afterbirth Cartoons.
CorMae play Central Records on Thursday, October 22, as part of their Sunny Side Tour. They're an Austin egg-punk and riot grrrl band that started with a social media ad and a dream and rose quickly on the city's scene. Fronting the group is vocalist Amber Appleton, a Bakersfield native who met her drummer in Austin and fell in love over the phone.
They've recently signed to DC-Jam Records and put out their seven-track debut, EVERYTHING IS SO GREAT!, an album about mental health struggles and finding community. They wrote it after opening for of Montreal for about 16 dates that summer, so the songs come from a stretch of time spent on the road. The Sunny Side Tour is billed as their first DIY tour, heading west, and the band runs the whole operation themselves—from costumes and vinyl design to mailing and flyers.
Their live show is described as wild, raw, cute, fuzzy, hardcore and sometimes a little crazy, and they close every night with "Purple People Eater." Halloween costumes are encouraged, which fits the DIY spirit they're bringing to the tour. Opening the night are Taco Sauce and Afterbirth Cartoons.
