A family-oriented cultural celebration of Dia de los Reyes Magos with activities, performances, piñatas, and traditional foods like Rosca de Reyes.
Three Kings Day returns to Commonwealth Plaza at The Kimmel Center on Sunday, January 3, 2027, starting at 3 PM. It's a family-oriented celebration of Día de los Reyes Magos, one of the most important dates on the Spanish-speaking calendar. The holiday centers on the tradition of the Three Wise Men—Melchior, Gaspar, and Balthazar—who brought gold, frankincense, and myrrh to the baby Jesus. In Mexico and across Latin America, the Reyes Magos bring presents to children, much like Santa Claus does in other cultures.
The afternoon fills the plaza with activities for all ages. Children can write letters to the Three Kings, stage performances play out throughout the day, and piñatas get broken. Everyone gets a taste of the traditional Rosca de Reyes bread and warm Mexican chocolate. It's the kind of event where you can bring the whole family and let the kids run with it while you hang back with a coffee.
This isn't a new addition to the city's winter calendar. The Philadelphia gathering has been held annually at the Kimmel Center since 2014 and regularly draws more than 400 people. It's become a reliable way to mark the holiday in the city, and the family-focused atmosphere is exactly what you'd expect from a celebration built around children receiving gifts.
