A festive afternoon of music by the Strauss family, inspired by the Viennese New Year's tradition, performed by The Philadelphia Orchestra.
The Philadelphia Orchestra brings Wonderful Waltzes to Marian Anderson Hall at The Kimmel Center on Saturday, January 2, 2027. It's a matinee, starting at 2 PM, and the program is built around the Strauss family. You'll hear On the Beautiful Blue Danube, Voices of Spring, and the Radetzky March—the kind of music that's practically shorthand for a Viennese New Year's celebration. The whole afternoon is a nod to that tradition of welcoming the new year with a waltz.
It's part of the Orchestra's 2026-27 season, which is Music and Artistic Director Yannick Nézet-Séguin's 15th. This season comes right after the Orchestra's 125th anniversary, and it's a big one. There are world premieres from Composer-in-Residence Joe Hisaishi, as well as Reena Esmail and Valerie Coleman. They're also doing the first complete performances of Wagner's Lohengrin and Bach's Christmas Oratorio, and spending the season working through Mahler's symphonies. Guest artists on the bill include Emanuel Ax, Yuja Wang, Yo-Yo Ma, and Simon Rattle.
