Concert by the percussion ensemble Third Coast Percussion and drummer Glenn Kotche, with Philip Glass and Steve Reich pieces, to celebrate Glass' 90th birthday.
Third Coast Percussion and Glenn Kotche play the Zellerbach Theatre on Sunday, February 7, 2027, at 7 PM. It's Third Coast's Philadelphia debut, and the whole night is built around Philip Glass' 90th birthday.
The program puts two percussion heavyweights on the same stage. Third Coast is a Grammy-winning ensemble known for pushing the genre in new directions, blurring musical boundaries and beguiling new listeners, as NPR Music put it. Glenn Kotche is a Grammy winner too, and you probably know him as the drummer for Wilco. Rolling Stone has him on its list of the 100 Greatest Drummers of All Time.
They'll be playing Glass' Aguas da Amazonia, and they've also got Steve Reich's Music for Pieces of Wood arranged for two drum sets. On top of those, they're bringing original compositions into the mix, so it's not just a tribute to the older names. The whole thing is part of the Penn Live Arts 26/27 season and their ListenHear series, which includes a chat with the artist.
