Theatre Contra stages a live reading of the 1996 horror film 'Scream' to mark its 30th anniversary, staged as if it were 1996.
Theatre Contra is bringing the script of Scream to life over two nights in Philadelphia, starting Thursday, October 29, at The Trestle Inn. It's a live reading of the 1996 horror classic, staged to mark the film's 30th anniversary.
If you're not familiar with what Theatre Contra does, they stage live readings of movie scripts to celebrate the anniversaries of the films they cover. For this one, they're taking the script of Scream and performing it live, staging the reading as if it were 1996. The result is billed as a live and likely unhinged reinterpretation of the slasher that redefined the genre. It's not a full production with sets and costumes, but a reading of the script itself, performed in front of an audience.
There are two chances to catch it. The first is Thursday, October 29, from 7 PM to 9 PM at The Trestle Inn. The second follows on Friday, October 30, from 7 PM to 9 PM, this time at Second District Brewing. Both run for two hours, so you can pick whichever night or venue works better for you.
