Live show by Sadurn with support from Kitchen and hemlock at The First Unitarian Church.
Sadurn plays The First Unitarian Church on Friday, November 20, with Kitchen and hemlock opening. It's a Philadelphia homecoming for the band, which formed here after frontman G DeGroot moved to the city.
Sadurn started in 2017 as DeGroot's solo project, a way to process his reality through songwriting. Once he settled in Philly, he added guitarist Jon Cox, drummer Amelia Swain, and bassist Tabitha Ahnert. Together they recorded their debut album, Radiator, which came out in 2022 on Run For Cover Records.
Their second album, The Underworld, came from a heavy stretch. DeGroot went through a difficult breakup and dealt with chronic pain and voice problems, spending about a year living on the road until his voice healed. Mark Watters mixed the record at The Headroom, and it was released on October 16 via Run For Cover. This show falls just a month after that release, so the set will be built around the new material.

Two openers round out the bill. Kitchen is the recording project of Rochester, NY songwriter James Keegan, whose 2017 album Town mixed cassette experimentation with pop songwriting. Hemlock is the "phone-fi" alt-folk project of Carolina Chauffe, who has put out hundreds of self-released songs since she started in 2018. Between the two, the night pulls from a few different corners of indie songwriting.
Doors open at 7:30 PM, and the show starts at 8 PM. Tickets are $25.81.
