Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist Louis Cato, former bandleader of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, plays his Philadelphia debut with his trio.
Louis Cato plays the Zellerbach Theatre on Sunday, November 22, at 7 PM, his first time performing in Philadelphia. He'll be on stage with his trio, so it's a small-group setup rather than a full band.
If you recognize the name but can't quite place it, you've probably seen him on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, where he was the final bandleader. That's the role he's best known for, but he's a Grammy-nominated multi-instrumentalist with a sound that pulls from jazz, funk, blues and soul. He's been praised for his musicality and for honest, thoughtful, vulnerable storytelling, and he runs the Cato Covers series, in which he reimagines an eclectic range of songs.
This show marks his Philadelphia debut, so it's the first time he's played the city. He'll be performing with his trio, and the set draws from that jazz, funk, blues and soul background he's built over the years. Between the trio format and the storytelling he's known for, it's a more stripped-down, intimate way to hear him than the late-night band setting.
