Multicultural family band Hot Peas 'n Butter brings a joyful, interactive party of Latin, Afro-Caribbean, jazz and bluegrass music to young audiences.
Hot Peas 'n Butter play the Harold Prince Theatre on Sunday, November 22, at 3 PM. It's a family show, and the band describes it as a joyful, interactive party for young audiences. If you've got kids and are looking for something to do on a Sunday afternoon, this is a good bet.
For those who haven't come across them, Hot Peas 'n Butter is a multicultural family band led by Danny Lapidus. The name comes from the playground game the members played as children. Their sound pulls from a wide range of traditions: Latin music, Afro-Caribbean rhythms, jazz, bluegrass, country, and rock. They sing in English and Spanish, but also in French, Korean, and Hebrew, and they've put out eight award-winning albums over the years. Their music has been featured on Nick Jr. and Nickelodeon, and the Los Angeles Times once called it a "hot and mellow multicultural groove."
Beyond the music, the group partners with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, creating safety songs and videos for the St. Jude Trike-a-thon. The show itself is built for kids, so expect it to be interactive rather than a sit-still-and-listen kind of concert.
