Orchestral adaptation of Dr. Seuss's Green Eggs and Ham, with three Aesop fables, narrated by Michael Boudewyns, as part of The Philadelphia Orchestra's Family Discovery Series.
The Philadelphia Orchestra brings Green Eggs and Ham to Marian Anderson Hall on Saturday, May 1, 2027, at 11:30 AM. It's part of the Family Series presented by Ensemble Arts and the orchestra, a strand of family-friendly programming meant for all ages.
The main event is Robert Kapilow's orchestral adaptation of Dr. Seuss's children's classic, staged as a culinary cartoon-musical banquet. Narrator Michael Boudewyns takes the stage as Sam-I-Am, and the piece runs about 20 minutes. From there, the concert shifts to the world of Aesop, the Greek storyteller, with Dorff's Three Fun Fables, which adds another 11 minutes to the program.
One thing that sets this apart from a typical morning at the Kimmel Center is how it's built for sensory needs. The house lights stay at mid-level rather than going dark, and the doors remain open throughout the performance. There's a cool-down space available if things get too much, and they hand out sensory-friendly kits, noise-canceling headphones, and fidget spinners. If you're bringing kids who get overwhelmed in crowds or loud spaces, those details make a real difference.
