Jazz performance by the Delbert Anderson Quartet, blending Diné songs with jazz and funk, with a pre-performance conversation with the artist.
Delbert Anderson Quartet plays the Harold Prince Theatre on Sunday, January 24, 2027. The show is part of the Penn Live Arts season at the Annenberg Center, 3680 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
Delbert Anderson is a Diné jazz trumpeter and composer, and The New York Times has placed him at the forefront of a vibrant Native American jazz scene. He and his quartet blend traditional Diné spinning songs with jazz and funk, so you'll hear Indigenous melodies woven into syncopated grooves. The program features the world premiere of Beyond Belief, a commissioned work in several parts that serves as a meditation on Navajo history and the tribe's broken relationship with America. When the quartet first played Philadelphia, Grammy.com praised the way they braided those Indigenous melodies with the grooves.
