All-instrumental surf-rock band Daikaiju, masked and confrontational, plays Nikki Lopez with support from Philadelphia trio Party Nerves.
Daikaiju are playing Nikki Lopez on Wednesday, October 21, as part of their DAIKAIJU ATTACKS!!! tour. They're an all-instrumental surf-rock band that first appeared in the winter of 1999, and they've kept their identities hidden behind masks since the start. The live show is built around thatβa highly interactive, confrontational performance that pulls the audience into a vortex of sound, fusing surf, punk, noise, metal, psychedelic and progressive rock. They describe themselves as a mysterious chimera of sound and imagery, with music centered on giant monsters, superhumans and extraterrestrial invasions.
Opening for them is Party Nerves, a Philadelphia trio that takes instrumental surf and runs it through a bad dream. They call their sound 'post-surf,' and it's earned them a reputation for inspiring exuberant mosh pits and wild dancing. They released their first EP, Go Broke or Go Home, in October 2024, so they're coming into this as a local act with a fresh record behind them. Between the two, you've got a night of instrumental music that leans heavily on the louder, more chaotic side of surf rock.
