Banjo virtuoso Béla Fleck returns to his bluegrass roots with 'My Bluegrass Heart', bringing together bluegrass legends and new talent.
Béla Fleck brings My Bluegrass Heart to the Zellerbach Theatre at the Annenberg Center on Saturday, November 14, at 7:30 PM. He's the artist-in-residence for the 2026/27 season, and this is one of the dates he's playing around the city this year.
Fleck is known as a banjo virtuoso with 18 Grammy Awards across nine genres, and My Bluegrass Heart is a return to his roots. He describes it as a homecoming in sound, bringing together bluegrass legends and newer talent to mix tradition with fresh energy. It's the third chapter of a trilogy that started with the 1988 album Drive and continued in 1991 with The Bluegrass Sessions. His bluegrass records have introduced new generations of pickers to the genre, and this one does it again in real time.
For this show, he's playing with Michael Cleveland, Dominick Leslie, Jeff Partin, Mark Schatz, and Jake Stargel. The project tours in several different iterations, with Fleck selecting his bandmates for each performance, so this is the particular group he's bringing to Philadelphia. If you want to hear what the project sounds like before you go, a live record, Live Heart: My Bluegrass Heart at the Ryman, came out on October 16, 2026, on Thirty Tigers.
