Closing concert of the Arts of India Festival, which celebrates Indian music and dance traditions at Penn Live Arts.
Penn Live Arts is wrapping up its Arts of India Festival on Saturday, November 7, the final night of a run that's been going since October 14. The closing concert is the last stop of more than three weeks of music and dance, and if you've been following along, it's the one that brings the whole thing to a close.
The festival is presented by Penn Live Arts, the University of Pennsylvania's presenting arm, and it's been a deep dive into India's history of music and dance. It kicked off with a sold-out performance by Carnatic vocalist TM Krishna, paired with a symposium on sound and music in South India, and from there it moved through a wide range of music and dance artists. The whole run was built around showcasing the diversity and innovation of Indian performance traditions, so the closing concert sits as the final piece of that sequence.

There's a bit more context to the timing, too. The festival is part of the venue's 26/27 season, titled Belonging, which explores how people navigate change and find acceptance in new worlds while longing for the community and traditions of home. Penn Live Arts is programming the season with world and Philadelphia premieres, artist residencies, and debut performances, and the Arts of India Festival fits right into that theme of tradition and home. The closing concert on November 7 is the final event of the festival, and it's held at Penn Live Arts, 3680 Walnut Street in Philadelphia.
