Afternoon of folk music by Ami Yares and Meghan Cary, with experiential art-making by BuildaBridge, as a BuildaBridge community event.
Meghan Cary and Ami Yares play 12 Chimneys on Sunday, October 18, as part of a BuildaBridge community event. The music is just one part of the afternoon: BuildaBridge teaching artists will also lead experiential art-making. The whole thing is hosted in the backyard of Karen Stevens and Tom Schwartz, who are opening their home to the neighborhood for the occasion.
BuildaBridge is the organization behind the day, and the music was chosen to lean into its mission of healing and hope. The group was co-founded by Drs. Vivian Nix-Early and Nathan Corbitt, who spent their lives supporting urban youth. Ami Yares is the organization's executive director, and she's also one of the performers.
Meghan Cary is a fixture of the Philadelphia folk scene. She wrote her debut record after her fiancΓ© died unexpectedly, and that album, SING LOUDER, earned a Billboard Magazine Critic's Choice Award and reached the top 10 of the US/International Folk DJ Chart. She also leads songwriting workshops. Ami Yares is a Northeast folk musician whose songs draw on Jim Croce, Bill Withers and Robbie Robertson, and who has played the Philadelphia Folk Festival and the Haverford Music Festival.
