Free one-day writing workshop led by Jhonnathan Velásquez and Julio Díaz Calderón for members of the LGBTIQ community.
Writing Against Forgetting is a one-day writing workshop for members of the LGBTIQ community, running at the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities on Saturday 24 October. It's led by Jhonnathan Velásquez and Julio Díaz Calderón, and it's run as part of the Oxford Cultural Programme.
The session is framed by the DPhil research of Emma Pritchard, whose fieldwork in Colombia looks at how LGBTIQ+ communities use storytelling to respond to experiences of violence and discrimination, particularly in the aftermath of conflict. From there, the workshop brings together artists and communities from the UK, Colombia and Mexico around lived experiences of love, identity, discrimination, joy and belonging.
It sits alongside a wider programme of work at the Schwarzman Centre, which brings together seven humanities faculties and research institutes with libraries, collections, exhibitions, cinema, music, theatre and performance, and houses the purpose-built Sohmen Concert Hall.
