Tribute show to Tina Turner led by Holly Bannis, with her classic hits, on the show's UK tour.
What's Love Got To Do With It? A Tribute To Tina Turner comes to New Theatre Oxford on Saturday 31 October, with a live band and Holly Bannis taking the lead. It's a tribute show celebrating the music and career of Tina Turner, and it's part of a 56-date UK tour. The production isn't endorsed by or affiliated with the Tina Turner Estate.
Bannis leads the show, and there's a bit of a story to how she got there. She's a performer from Kent and the daughter of Greg Bannis, the former lead singer of Hot Chocolate. After more than a decade of honing her craft, she was discovered at an audition for ITV's Starstruck, where she had to impersonate three musical icons and chose Tina Turner. She was initially cast as a backing singer and understudy, but she quickly took over the lead role and has since earned standing ovations. This is the same role she'll be stepping into on the Oxford stage.
The set leans on Turner's classic hits: 'Proud Mary', 'River Deep - Mountain High', 'Simply The Best', 'Private Dancer' and 'Nutbush City Limits' are all in the mix. With a live band backing her, the show works its way through the songs that defined Turner's career, from the early high-energy numbers to the polished pop of her later years.
