ACE dance and music double bill of 'Echoes of Dust' and 'Letlalo', two pieces that redefine dance from the African Diaspora.
ACE dance and music bring their latest double bill, TWAWSI: The World As We See it, to the Oxford Playhouse on Saturday 20 March. It's two pieces in one evening, and they're billed as a way of redefining dance from the African Diaspora, with each one offering a different vision of the world we're living in.
The first is Echoes of Dust, choreographed by Serge Aimé Coulibaly with creative contributions from Sigué Sayouba. It follows seven people stranded in the heart of chaos, stripped of certainty and memory, as they stumble, fight and protest. It's a piece that puts a group of people in a state of collapse and watches how they deal with it.
The second is Letlalo — 'Skin' in choreographer Vincent Mantsoe's native Sotho. It draws on African, Indigenous and contemporary dance languages rooted in ancestral wisdom and inspired by nomadic cultures, and it looks at the deep connection between humanity and the earth. Between the two, you get a stark contrast: one focused on the struggle of people caught in chaos, the other on the link between people and the land.

Together they run an hour and forty minutes with an interval, and the performance is recommended for ages seven and over. A couple of things to keep in mind if you're sensitive to them: haze and a strobe light are used during the first five minutes. The show starts at 7:30pm at the Oxford Playhouse.
