Interactive storytelling galleries, including the Whispering Wood, Enchanted Library, 100-seat theatre and a temporary exhibition space, at The Story Museum.
The Story Museum Galleries are open at The Story Museum on 5 January 2027, as part of a run that continues into Spring 2027. The museum sits in the heart of Oxford, in a reclaimed building that was once a telephone exchange off St Aldates on Pembroke Street. It celebrates the power of stories to teach and delight, drawing up to 100,000 visitors a year.
The galleries themselves are interactive, with a Whispering Wood, an Enchanted Library, a Treasure Chamber and a Story Arcade. Beyond those, the museum houses a 100-seat theatre, a learning studio and a temporary exhibition space, with a Story Café in the central courtyard and a shop. Peter Chand is the resident storyteller. The site has been redeveloping in phases, reopening in stages with safety measures in place.
For those with little ones, the Small Worlds gallery is a mix of storybook gallery and interactive play led by a Story Guide, with a story cart of accessories for each family. The whole site is wheelchair accessible, and there's a buggy park and lockers on hand.
