Political drama about Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey and Tony Crosland, with the original cast returning on its national tour.
The Gang of Three runs at the Oxford Playhouse from Tuesday 27 to Saturday 31 October, with the original cast returning for the tour. It's a political drama that puts three figures of the Labour Party—Roy Jenkins, Denis Healey and Tony Crosland—at the centre, clashing over the soul of British socialism and their own ambitions against the backdrop of an economic crisis. The play opens up the private tensions and personalities that shaped a generation of politics and tracks the internal friction that would later lead to the SDP.
It's written by Robert Khan and Tom Salinsky and directed by Kirsty Patrick Ward. The cast is Alan Cox as Tony Crosland, Hywel Morgan as Roy Jenkins and Colin Tierney as Denis Healey. After a sell-out run in London, the production is out on a major national tour, and it's described as sharp, provocative and richly entertaining political theatre. It's recommended for ages 14 and over.
