A concert led by conductor Robin Smith playing Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells trilogy in full, plus 'Moonlight Shadow'.
The Best of Mike Oldfield's Tubular Bells I II & III comes to New Theatre Oxford on Friday 12 March 2027, starting at 7.30pm. It's a live concert celebrating the Tubular Bells trilogy, and it's worth knowing from the start that Mike Oldfield himself isn't scheduled to appear. The evening is led and arranged by Robin Smith, a Grammy nominee and Oldfield collaborator of more than 30 years.
The programme takes in Tubular Bells I in full, followed by extended sections of Tubular Bells II and III, with 'Moonlight Shadow' added to the mix. To get a sense of what that covers, the trilogy spans 27 years of Oldfield's work. The first volume was written in 1971 and released in 1973 when he was 17; the second arrived in 1992, its filmed premiere at Edinburgh Castle remaining one of the most viewed musical events ever; the third followed in 1998, and its track 'Far Above the Clouds' featured in the London 2012 Olympic Opening Ceremony. Together they make up a good part of his legacy, which also includes 'Family Man' and 'Summit Day'.
Robin Smith is the one conducting, and he's worked with Oldfield for over three decades, leading performances at Edinburgh Castle, Horse Guards Parade and the 2012 Olympic Games. This 2027 UK tour follows sell-out runs across the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand throughout 2025 and 2026.
