Swing Fix! weekly Lindy Hop class and social dancing

Oxford Lindy Hoppers are back with Swing Fix, their weekly Lindy Hop and swing social night, on Tuesday 27 October at St Columba's United Reformed Church. It's a regular fixture for the city's swing community, run by the Lindy Hoppers for anyone who can't quite keep off the dance floor.

The night is built around two classes. The Swing Basics class runs from 20:00 to 21:00; it's beginner-friendly and open to all levels, so you don't need to bring a partner, and it's designed to get you social dancing within the hour. Before that, from 19:00 to 20:00, there's the Themed-track class, formerly known as Fast-track. That one builds on the previous week, diving into different swing styles and choreographies like Collegiate Shag, Balboa and Blues, alongside standards like the Shim Sham. If you're just starting out, the Basics class is the one to drop into; if you've got some experience and want to work through a specific style over a few weeks, the Themed-track is for you.

Once the classes wrap up, the social dancing takes over from 21:00 to 22:15 in the Bear beer garden, and the night traditionally closes with the 'Survivors photo'—a snapshot of everyone who stayed until the end. It's an intimate, friendly sort of evening, and since it's a weekly thing, it's easy to make a habit of it.

On the practical side, you'll find the venue at St Columba's United Reformed Church Hall, and you get there by entering through the rear of the Bear Pub on Blue Boar Street. It's all drop-in, so you pay at the door by card only—no cash. The Swing Basics class including social is £8; the Themed-track class including social is also £8; social dancing on its own is £5; and if you do both classes and the social, it's £10. The Basics class starts at 20:00, the Themed-track at 19:00, and the social dancing runs from 21:00 to 22:15.
