Over-15s martial arts class of Ju Jitsu and Kung Fu, also known as Atado, for beginners.
Oxford Ju Jitsu (Atado) runs at the South Oxford Community Centre on Wednesday evenings, from 8.00pm to 10.00pm. It's a martial arts class that pulls from a few different traditions rather than sticking to just one, so if you've ever wondered what Ju Jitsu actually looks like in practice, this is a good place to find out.
The club goes by two names: Atado martial arts and The Far Eastern Club. It's a long-standing English club built around Ju Jitsu and Kung Fu, and that's the core of what they do. From there, the repertoire takes in a mixture of usable techniques from other styles, so the focus is on practical self-defence rather than just the sport side of things. It's a good fit if you're interested in the more functional end of martial arts.
One of the better things about it is that beginners are welcome, so you don't need any prior experience to turn up and get started. The class is aimed at over-15s of either sex, which keeps the group mixed and open to a broad age range. If you've been thinking about taking up something like this but weren't sure where to start, a community centre class is usually a low-pressure way to ease in.
