University of Oxford student production by Likehearted Productions, written by Yusuf Naeem, exploring the British South Asian diaspora through a British corner shop.
Next Customer, please! opens at the Burton Taylor Studio on Tuesday 3 November, running through to Saturday 7 November. It's the first production from Likehearted Productions, a new student company from the University of Oxford, and it's written by Yusuf Naeem.
The play is set inside a British corner shop — a space most of us know by heart, nostalgic and ever-present on the high street. From there it looks at the British South Asian diaspora through the everyday life of the shop owner, Uncle Iqbal, and his employee, Sohail. The story follows Iqbal's relationship with his identity as a father, a neighbour and a boss, a role that's built up over time and then disrupted. Naeem describes the play as funny, intimate and sharp, and it's meant to offer a fresh look at a familiar setting.
Because it's the inaugural production for Likehearted Productions, it's the first time the company is putting work on stage. It's also part of the University of Oxford Student Season for Michaelmas Term 2026, so it's one of several student-led shows running across the city this autumn.

It runs for five nights in total — Tuesday 3, Wednesday 4, Thursday 5, Friday 6 and Saturday 7 November — with each performance starting at 9:30pm. The Burton Taylor Studio is one of the smaller spaces at the Oxford Playhouse, so it's a good fit for a play described as intimate. If you're heading in, keep in mind the late start: 9:30pm on all five nights.
