Free exhibition of work by photographer Martin Parr, a Bodleian project documenting a year in the life of the University of Oxford.
Martin Parr's work is on display at the Weston Library in Oxford, having opened on 12 September 2026. The exhibition is in Blackwell Hall, part of the Bodleian Libraries on Broad Street, and it's free to visit.
If you're not familiar with him, Parr (1952–2025) was one of the most influential photographers of the last fifty years. He spent his career pushing the medium forward with a very particular way of seeing the world and a lifelong commitment to photography. He was also a huge advocate for the photobook, putting out nearly 150 publications over his lifetime, including Oxford (2017).
The display comes from a project commissioned by the Bodleian, which documented a full year in the life of the University of Oxford. It runs from the ceremonial traditions that the university is known for right through to the quiet, everyday academic life that happens behind the scenes. The exhibition celebrates his legacy as a photographer, a collaborator, and a champion of the photographic book.
