Leeds Playhouse production of the musical about a florist's assistant and a carnivorous plant, with BSL and captioned performances.
Little Shop of Horrors comes to the Oxford Playhouse from Thursday 22 to Saturday 31 July 2027, a Leeds Playhouse production in association with the Playhouse and directed by Jamie Sophia Fletcher. It's a musical with book and lyrics by Howard Ashman and music by Alan Menken, the duo behind Disney's The Little Mermaid, Aladdin and Beauty and the Beast. This staging leans into the show's darker side, blending Broadway wit with retro B-movie chaos and the camp horror of the 1986 film.
The story follows Seymour Krelborn, a florist's assistant who discovers a carnivorous plant he names Audrey II. The plant promises him fame, fortune and the girl of his dreams, but it demands blood in return. The score features numbers like 'Feed Me' and 'Who'd Be A Dentist'. The show itself is based on Roger Corman's film with a screenplay by Charles Griffith, and it first opened at the Orpheum Theatre in New York City, produced by the WPA Theatre, David Geffen, Cameron Mackintosh and the Shubert Organization.
