Modern jazz trio of Keith Fairbairn, Leon Greening and Dave Whitford plays standards and originals with special guest Matt Wates on saxophone.
The Keith Fairbairn Modern Jazz Trio are playing at Common Ground Workspace on Sunday 18 October, from 7.30pm to 9.45pm. It's a modern jazz session, and for this one they've brought in Matt Wates on saxophone as a special guest.
The trio itself is Keith Fairbairn on drums, Leon Greening on piano, and Dave Whitford on double bass. With Wates joining them, the night moves from a piano trio to a quartet, with the saxophone taking a more prominent role in the mix.
As for what they'll be playing, the set is a mix of modern jazz standards and original music drawn from the repertoire of some of the UK's greatest jazz musicians. It's not a single-album show or a themed night, but a broader look at the modern jazz tradition, with the trio's own takes on those standards sitting alongside the pieces they've pulled from the wider UK jazz scene.
