Family Halloween workshop in the Castle crypt where teams solve clues, brew a drinkable potion and craft a magical wand as Merlin's apprentice.
Ghost Fest: Potion Making runs at Oxford Castle & Prison from Sunday 25 to Saturday 31 October, with sessions at 10.00am, 12.00pm and 2.30pm. Each one lasts an hour. It's part of Ghost Fest, the annual Halloween event at the Castle, which runs alongside the site's evening Spooky Tours that walk you through its thousand-year history. This is the family-friendly, hands-on side of things, and it's set inside a real medieval crypt.
The session is led by Merlin's apprentice, who needs your help to master potion-making before graduating. Working in teams, you solve clues to uncover magical ingredients and brew your own drinkable potion. You'll also craft a magical wand to take home and collect a spell booklet full of activities to try, with a few magical demonstrations from the apprentice mixed in. It's aimed at ages 5 and up, with the experience recommended for ages 5 to 10.
