Six 45-minute dance taster sessions for adults of all ages, from ballet and Bharatanatyam to jazz, tap and street dance, with no prior experience needed.
Summertown Arts and Dancin' Oxford are running a dance taster day on Sunday 18 October, with six 45-minute sessions running from 10.00am to 4.15pm. It's set up for adults of all ages to try out a few different styles in one go, and you don't need any prior experience to join in. There's no pre-booking either: you just pay on the door by cash or card and can drop in for a single session or stay for several throughout the day.
The morning starts with adult ballet with Laura Addison from 10.00 to 10.45, followed by Bharatanatyam with Shreya Kallingal from 11.00 to 11.45. Midday brings Balboa with Janet Davis, 12.00 to 12.45. After a short break, Nyroy Dixon takes over for two back-to-back sessions: jazz and musical theatre from 1.15 to 2.00, then tap from 2.15 to 3.00. The day wraps up with street dance with Amelie Meaden, 3.15 to 4.00. Each one is 45 minutes, so you can mix and match as many as you fancy.
The whole thing is held in the hall at Summertown Arts, 294a Banbury Road, OX2 7ED. The venue is a deconsecrated church, and the hall itself is roughly the size of a badminton court. It's recently had a fully-sprung dance floor installed, which has made it a popular spot for the local dance community. The venue has been taking on the hall since the church was deconsecrated and, as of 2025, hopes to buy it outright. It also runs other things alongside the dance, like a slow stitching course and the Missing Soul night of music, poetry and comedy.

It's £5 per person per session, so if you fancy trying three different styles, it'll be £15. The sessions run from 10.00am to 4.15pm on Sunday 18 October at Summertown Arts, and since there's no pre-booking, you can just turn up and pay on the door.
