Free creative dance, music and movement workshop for older people with Parkinson's, led by MuMo Creative.
MuMo Creative are running a Dance for Parkinson's performance workshop at Weston Library on Sunday 18 October, part of the Dancin' Oxford Autumn Family Dance Festival. It starts at 11.30am, and it's free to take part.
Dance for Parkinson's is a creative dance, music and movement programme run by MuMo Creative in partnership with Oxford City Council and English National Ballet. It's designed for older people living with age-related health conditions, with a particular focus on those with Parkinson's. The sessions bring together movement, live music, creative exercises and vocal work, all built around themes and stories. There's a strong emphasis on the joy of dancing, making music and socialising, rather than on the clinical side of things.
People who've taken part have described it as lifting their spirits and improving their wellbeing. One person said they feel it slows the progress of their symptoms as much as, if not more than, medication. The work has gained some recognition too: it was shortlisted for the MJ Achievement Awards 2025 for Innovation in Public Private Partnerships and was highly commended in the Community Category at the BBC Radio Oxford Make a Difference Awards 2024. MuMo Creative also received a three-year National Lottery Community Fund grant to support this alongside their Dance for Joy, Dance for Dementia and Singing for Parkinson's programmes.
