Free talk by BACKLIT's Matthew Chesney about artist Sarah Cunningham's practice, part of the CONTEMPORARY X ART HISTORIES strand.
Nottingham Contemporary is hosting a talk titled Ways of Seeing, Learning and Making: I Heard the Sky is Still Blue on Wednesday 9 December, from 3pm to 4.30pm in The Space. It's part of Contemporary x Art Histories, a collaborative strand between the University of Nottingham and the gallery.
The session is led by Matthew Chesney, Co-Director of BACKLIT studios. The talk takes its starting point from the time artist Sarah Cunningham spent working at BACKLIT, and Chesney uses that experience to look at the realities of making and sustaining a life as an artist. He'll be talking about the conditions, relationships and spaces that allow a practice to grow, and the commitment it takes to keep going.

If you've been following Cunningham's work, there's a nice connection to keep in mind: her exhibition Midnight Sun runs from 9 October to 10 January, so you can see her work at the gallery before or after the talk. The session itself is free, though donations are requested. It's wheelchair accessible and the speakers use microphones, so it's an easy one to drop into on a Wednesday afternoon.
