25th anniversary screening of Alejandro Amenábar's gothic thriller 'The Others', starring Nicole Kidman and Christopher Eccleston.
The Others is back at Broadway Cinema this week for its 25th anniversary. It's a gothic thriller from 2001, directed by Alejandro Amenábar and starring Nicole Kidman, and this run marks a quarter-century since it first came out. There are three screenings to choose from: Tuesday 20 October at 20:30, Wednesday 21 October at 13:00, and Thursday 22 October at 17:15.
The story is set on the island of Jersey in 1945. Kidman plays a hyper-protective mother who keeps her two children tucked away in a grand, dark mansion, telling them they have a disease that makes them allergic to sunlight. As the days pass, she becomes convinced the house is haunted, and the tension builds around what's actually going on inside those walls. Christopher Eccleston and Fionnula Flanagan also star, and the whole thing runs 104 minutes. It's rated 12A.
If you've seen it before, it's a good one to revisit on the big screen, especially as a gothic piece that relies so much on its atmosphere. If it's new to you, it's a slow-burn that holds its cards close to its chest until the end. The three different times — a midweek evening, a lunchtime matinee, and a late-afternoon slot — make it easy to fit in around your week.
