Live show by indie rock band The Clause, mixing rock, funk and Britpop, at The Palais in Nottingham.
The Clause play The Palais on Saturday 12 December, from 6:30pm to 10:00pm. They're an indie rock band from Birmingham, and this is a headline show with them as the sole act on the bill.
Their sound pulls from a few different places at once: rock, funk and Britpop. They describe it as having "60s swagger, 80s groove and 90s attack", which gives you a fair idea of the ground they cover. It's the kind of indie that doesn't sit still — the rock provides the weight, the funk keeps it moving, and the Britpop side brings the melodies to the front. If you're familiar with the British guitar tradition, you'll recognise the threads they're pulling from.
They formed in the mid-2010s and spent their early years building a following on the local scene with infectious melodies, tight musicianship and charismatic live shows that draw on classic British rock while adding a modern edge. They've released their music independently and have toured frequently since then. Two of the songs they lean on to showcase their knack for catchy hooks and thoughtful lyrics are 'In My Element' and 'Where Are You Now', both of which have helped them pick up festival slots and radio play on major UK platforms along the way.
