Monthly Sunday day of steam engines at the Nottingham Industrial Museum in Wollaton Park.
Steaming Sunday is back at the Nottingham Industrial Museum this Sunday 25 October, the last Sunday of the month when the museum's steam engines are fired up and running. It's a regular thing here — the last Sunday of every month — so if you can't make this one, there's another coming up soon enough.
The museum sits inside Wollaton Park, and it's built around five galleries that cover the industries Nottingham was once famous for: textiles, transport, communication and power. The Engine Hall is where the real action is on a steaming day. It's filled with heritage engines that date back to the Industrial Revolution, and on these Sundays, you get to see them in motion rather than just standing still. Among them is the Basford Beam, an engine that used to pump drinking water for the city, alongside mill engines that powered factory machinery and two ploughing engines.
It's a good one for a family day out, especially if you've got kids who'd rather see things moving than read a plaque. The museum has an on-site café for a drink and a shop to pick up something to take home, and there's parking available for a fee. The museum is at Wollaton Park, Nottingham, NG8 2AE.
