Free family session with real spiders and snails to explore their role in the environment, part of Nottingham City Libraries' Green Libraries Week.
Spiderwoman vs Snailman comes to Nottingham Central Library on Wednesday 21 October, with two sessions to choose from: one at 11am and another at 2pm. It's part of the library's Green Libraries Week, which runs every October across the city's branches. This year's theme is 'Climate Facts for a greener future: Navigating mis- and disinformation in libraries', so the whole thing sits within a wider month of events looking at how we sort through the noise to find the actual facts about the environment.
The session itself is aimed at families with children aged four and over. The organisers describe it as a chance to creep, crawl and swirl into the world of spiders and snails, pick up some surprising facts, and find out why both are so important to the environment. It's not just a talk, either — they've confirmed that real spiders and snails will be there on the day, so you'll get to see them up close rather than just hearing about them. The whole thing takes about an hour, which makes it a manageable mid-morning or mid-afternoon outing with the kids.
Every week we pick 🏆 the 5 best 🏆 things to do in Nottingham and send them to your inbox. Just one weekly email, no spam.

If you're planning to go, it's worth getting your tickets sorted early. They're free, but space is limited, so they'll likely go quickly. With the two different times — 11am and 2pm — you can pick whichever fits your day best, and since it's at the Central Library, it's easy to get to from anywhere in the city. If you've got little ones who are into bugs, this is a good way to spend a Wednesday morning or afternoon.
